August 2015 Meeting

After dealing with the monthly business,  we moved on to the evening entertainment.  We started out with a quick cutting party.  Everyone cut their patriotic stripset into blocks.  We will turn these blocks into a finished twin size quilt during our group sew day on August 22nd.  The quilt is being donated to a local area Veterans Rehab Home.  Our generous quilters came up with enough blocks to make the twin quilt and a bag to wrap it in.  How cool is that!

We then moved on to the demo. Pres. Jen presented the 3rd installment of our color theory lesson.  She had several examples of fabrics and showed how they interacted with each other, depending on their small, medium and large pattern scale.  She shared ways to analyze a fabric's pattern and how to compliment it with other fabrics.

This amazing quilt was made by Stephanie J. for her parents 40th Anniversary.  It is filled with blocks created by many family members.  It tells the story of many memories and times with family.  It is a sad time when you get your gifted quilts back in your possession, because those loved ones have passed on.  I can only imagine how much your parents cherished this quilt of memories, Steph.

Stephanie made this quilt for her father who was very involved  in baseball.  When the time came he could no longer play, she created this quilt with his uniforms, shirts and lasting memories.  Steph is a major player in our club and we're so happy to be able to comfort her in time of sorrow and grief.

I hope you can schedule in your calendar to participate in our sew day on Saturday, August 22nd.  We need lots of helping hands.  If you don't want to bring a machine, there will be other things to do.  We plan to put this top together, sandwich and tie it, all in one day.    Bring a lunch or make a quick run out.  We will work from 9 am to  3:00 ish.

Our sew days are also meant to share and learn from each other, so come on and join us.  They are also meant to reach out to help you with troubled projects or decisions.  Bring it with you, there is always expertise to share.  We all love to teach and learn.
