August 2016 Meeting

I don't have alot of photos to share this month.  It seems each month we allow ourselves to get busier and forget how to cut back.

Jan B. presented our demo on alzheimers fidgit quilts.  She made up 2 great examples too.

Arlene brought in one of her latest finishes, this dark and dramatic irish chain quilt, complete with her traditional prairie points.

She also had this gorgeous one.....is the pattern called Jack's Chain or Jewel?  I would have gladly taken this one home with me.  It also has her traditional prairie point finish.

Here is Joyce's batch of children's charity quilts this month. I think she said there were 9 quilts.

same bundle of quilts from another camera angle.

Last month I presented a challenge to the club, offering a pre-cut kit, including batting, backing and binding with pattern.  The goal was to bring the finished quilt back at the next meeting to earn 1 yard of fabric for yourself.  Our eager Margaret jumped on the challenge.  She not only finished the quilt from the kit, she also made up another version of her own, putting string blocks in place of the individual squares.   I love that idea.

This may be a good pattern for our orphan blocks.  You can download your own copy of the simplified pattern here :   http://scrapboxquilts.blogspot.com/2016/07/big-squares-baby-block.html

here is my kit version:

and here is Margaret's modified version:  The dark strips are actually a lovely navy, not black, but my camera must have cateracts.

and finally,  this is a quilt that Val took home to quilt and bind on her long arm.

That's it for now.  We're going to play with some fidgit quilts at the sew day - August 20th.  I hope you can be there.  There will be lots of fidgit gadgets at the church to use on your fidgit quilt, just bring fabric to make the lap quilt, 30 - 40" square.  It doesn't have to be quilting cotton, they like soft or furry things too.  Hope to see you there.
